Willie Albert was born July 5, 1953, to the late Paul and Bessie Albert in Columbia, South Carolina. At a young age, his parents moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was introduced to and accepted Christ. After graduating high school, Willie enlisted into the United States Navy. After serving three years on the ships, it occurred to him that the ocean was “too big to swallow,” and once on dry land, he ended his term of service.
Once he returned home to Philadelphia, Willie worked in the civilian sector and soon determined that he did not want this to be his life, which led to Willie enlisting into the US Army. In 1987, after vacationing with his Battle Buddy, Wilbert Bryant, he was united in holy matrimony to Evelene Motley.
Willie retired from the army, after twenty years of service, and relocated his family to Clanton, Alabama. While in Clanton, Willie joined the Morning Start Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Michael England. Willie served as a faithful trustee, usher, and male chorus member, until his health began to decline.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his son, Reginald Williams, one sister, and four brothers.
Memories of Willie will forever be cherished by: three daughters, Onajuanita (Christopher) Foster, Orlita (Bernard) Lacy, and Daminse’ Albert; three sisters, Susie Russell, Bessie Robinson, and Adele (Weldon) Johnson; one brother, Morris Albert; one sister-in-law, Johnnie (Morris) Bryant; one brother-in-law, Chico Motley; eleven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Willie completed his final Farewell to Arms on Monday, August 22, at 8:58 AM, at the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City, Alabama
