He departed this life on October 1, 2025, at VA Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Minnie Lee Wilkes.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Gloria J. Wilkes; children, Joyce Wilson, William (Margie) Wilkes, Jr., Angela (Cederic) Bailey, Vivian Wilkes, Carla Mitchell, Rickey Mitchell, Peter (Denise) Taylor, and Melinda Oliver; grandchildren, Montel Wilkes, Desmond Wilkes, Autumn Wilkes, Brian Bailey, Korsha (Devin) Jelks, Tamia Bailey, Kassandra Bell, Curtis Bell, Jr., Brianna Bell, Courtney Bell, Shenetta Mitchell, Jamonica Mitchell, Emil Prevo, Eric Oliver, Sheneka Oliver, and Kentera Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
