MR. SYLVESTER “VES” NIX was born to R.C. Nix and Nina F. Nix on October 15, 1955. Sylvester confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, in Maplesville, Alabama.
In 1976, upon completion of high school, Sylvester enlisted in the United States Army. He became an accomplished E-4 Specialist. Also, he served several years at the Alabama National Guard Armory located in Clanton, Alabama.
Sylvester was known for his warm smile, unwavering kindness, comical jokes, and God-given gift of song.
Whether singing at home, in church, musical events with the renowned quartet group The Wondering Clouds, or simply lifting someone’s spirits with a melody, his anointed voice touched countless hearts with an abundance of joy and comfort.
Sylvester was a father to three sons whom he loved dearly.
Sylvester departed this earthly life on November 30, 2025, at Diversicare of Riverchase, Birmingham, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his father, R.C. Nix, and his sister, Lynda F. Clay. Sylvester will be remembered as a man who loved deeply, laughed freely, and brightened any environment that he encountered with his personality. His presence was a blessing, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled. Yet, the memories he created and the songs he sang will forever remain in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving mother, Nina F. Nix; cherished sons, Jarvis (Precious) Nix, Evan (Andrea) Nix, and Thomas Hosecloth; grandchildren, Jayla Nix, Darius Nix, Devon Nix, Krystian Nix, Cohwen Nix, Bailey Nix, and Skylar Hosecloth; a great-grandchild, Kyren Morrow; siblings, Pastor Roman Cecil Nix, Sr., and Taquana Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will honor his memory for years to come.
