Sherrilyn Sanders Obituary

Sherrilyn (Tyus) Sanders, born in 1964, was the third child born to the union of the late Mr. and Mrs. Morris Lois Tyus of Verbena, Alabama, in the community of Lily Hill.

Accepting Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life, she began servitude in the Lily Hill Missionary Baptist Church and continued to serve even as her health began to decline.

She faithfully served and held many positions such as Usher, Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director Assistant, Choir Member, and Church Mission Member, Treasurer, Vice-President, and President.

Sherrilyn attended and graduated from Verbena High School. She participated in various extra- curricular activities including Beta Club, Library Assistant, and was crowned Miss DeVena fourth runner-up in her sophomore year. She continued her formal education at Trenholm State Technical University, earning her Associate Degree in Dentistry and working as a Dental Assistant before retiring.

In 1987, Sherrilyn married the love of her life, Dwayne Sanders, a marriage which lasted 36 years until his death in 2023. To this union, a son was born, Morris C. Sanders, whom she affectionally referred to as her “Miracle Child.” Her one love became two! For many years, Sherrilyn participated, supported, and held the positions as Den Mother of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as she proudly witnessed her son earned and became an Eagle Scout.

Sherrilyn was instrumental in the original committee to establish the Pentecost Volunteer Fire Department.

On February 4, 2024, Sherrilyn passed peacefully in her sleep as she was called home to be with the Lord.

Preceding her into Heaven were her devoted parents, loving husband, Dwayne Sanders, and two sisters, Gwendolyn Tyree and Nadine Tyus.
