Samuel Davis Obituary

Samuel E. Davis was born January 15, 1947, in Maplesville, Alabama to the late Leon Davis and Martha Jewel Davis. He committed his life to Christ at an early age and joined New Convert Baptist where he later served as the Sunday school superintendent and Deacon.

He attended New Convert Elementary School and graduated from Chilton County Training School. After completing high school, Samuel joined the United States Air Force where he served in the Vietnam War. After his departure from Vietnam, he returned home to join hands in marriage with the the love of his life.

He completed four years active duty and retired after serving 25 years with the Air National Guard. Throughout the years while serving in the Air National Guard, he obtained his associate degree in Diesel Auto Mechanic Services from Wallace Community College Selma.

He later retired as a Foreman from ABC Rail after 33 years. “Earl”, as he was called by those who knew him, loved his country roots and ancestors. He often told stories about his dad, Grandpa Leroy, Uncle Duke, Uncle Geech, Aunt Mary, and Uncle Oliver, with whom he shared unbreakable bonds. At a very young age, they taught him pertinent means of survival such as hunting and harvesting. The two would later become his passion. Earl was an outstanding, hardworking provider for his wife and daughters. Day and night, even after working 12-hour days on his full-time job, he harvested fruits and vegetables that could feed the entire community. He was sustained with determination. Doing for others is what he loved to do.

He also had a great love for music, fast cars, BBQing, and most of all, his family. He expressed his passion for all until his health began to fail.

He departed this life on May 16, 2024, at Shelby Baptist Hospital, with his loved ones by his side.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted wife and apple of his eye for 53 years, Joyce Davis; four daughters, Daphanie Diaz (William) of Birmingham, AL, Rechondia Barnes of Maplesville, AL, Katrina Davis of Pelham, AL, and Makeba Mixon (Carl) of Montgomery, AL; four sisters, Leona Young (Robert) of Fontana, CA, Priscilla Robinson of Severn, MD, Patricia Wilson of Wetumpka, AL, and Rosemary Payton (Darryl) of Porter Ranch, CA; one sister-in-law, Eva Renfroe of Prattville, AL; a special friend of the family, Omar Robinson; eight grandkids who referred to him as “PawPaw”, Andre (Kayla), Charity, Lucas, Skylar, Corey, Omarion, Christian, and Ava; four great-grandchildren, Karmen, Kaliyah, Kamryn, and Armani; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
