Obituary

Roosevelt Varner Jr. was born in Clanton, Alabama Jan, 3rd 1937 to the union of Roosevelt and Rossie Varner. Roosevelt parted this life on Aug 17, 2023.

As a young man he began his love for farming. His father Roosevelt Sr. was a farmer. They would harvest corn, cotton and even watermelon. He also loved to go wild game hunting with his father and brothers. He would catch rabbits, racoons and squirrels.

He graduated from Chilton county training school where he was on the basketball team. After high school he attended Tuskegee University and majored in agriculture.

After leaving Tuskegee Roosevelt Varner Jr. moved to Cincinnati Ohio where he met his dedicated wife Annie Pauline Varner. They were married for 64 years and to this union was born 6 children, 23 grandchildren, 44 grandchildren.

Roosevelt was a dedicated family man. He was known to be a help to his family.

He worked his own paper route and at a Hardware store before starting his career at Ford Motor company. He was a machine operator at the Ford Motor Company in Sharonville Ohio. He received many awards and certifications. He retired after 40 years of service.

Roosevelt was also known as the “watermelon man”. He would be known to transport watermelons. His brother BW also got him in to harvesting peanuts.

Eventually Roosevelt moved with his wife back to Clanton, Alabama. They traveled back and forth to Cincinnati when possible. When he moved back to Alabama he became a deacon and trustee and his childhood church Kincheon Road Church of God. Roosevelt worked his farmland until the end. He loved being on his land and was a true country man.

He battled with kidney disease and started dialysis 15 years ago. He was a true fighter and didn’t let the disease stop him. Even though Roosevelt was tired he fought to the end.

Roosevelt was proceeded in death by his Mother Rossie and Father Roosevelt Varner Sr., Father-in-law, Issac, Mother-in-law, Sarah Young, His daughter Marlette E. Varner, three sisters Maggie Dixon, Willa Dean Williams, Vera Rush, three brothers, Edward Jackson, Willie Varner, James Harrell Varner, three sister in laws Jean Stephenson, Annie L. Young, Carolyn Young, two brother in laws Tommy Young Freddie Young.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 64 years Annie P. Varner, Gregory L. Varner (Katara), Denise M. Varner, Roosevelt K. Varner (Vionette Gonzalez, Traci L. (Varner) Shabazz, his boss baby LeAndra Varner. His sisters Rosie Love(William), Nancy L Davis Detroit Mi. two brothers, William Varner, Detroit Mi. Thomas Varner, Birmingham, Ala . three sister in laws Linda Johnson (Lonnie), Darlene Lowe (Willis), Lynnete Martin; two brothers-in-law, James Williams and Walter (Joyce) Young, 25 Grandchildren: Shakeita , Shavonte, Kaesha , Natisha, Ieasha , Chance , Leray , Donshia , Reydale, Terrence, Davon, Lashelle, Jennifer, Brittney, Eniah, Arielle, Keona , Michael, Daniel, Lisa, Brandon, Tanisha, Jernice, Nashon’da, Ricco. Great Grandkids 44, Great Great Grandkids 2, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
