Roosevelt Simon was born on April 12, 1932, in Jemison, Alabama, one of ten children born to the late Rufus and Dollie (Hicks) Simon.
He was baptized at a young age at Shiloh Baptist Church.
As a young man, Roosevelt began work at Chemical Lime, in Calera, Alabama, a job he held for 35 years until his retirement. His yearning to continue participating in the community led him to become a greeter at Walmart. He greeted everyone with a smile and met no strangers.
This position he held for 10 years.
He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mattie (Ford) Simon on August 5, 1983. Mr. Roosevelt was previously married to Estella Oates Simon, and to this union seven chidlren were born.
He had nine siblings who preceded him in death: Ellison Simon, Willie Simon, W.C. Simon, N.C. Simon, Robert Simon, McArthur Simon, Etherean McCrary, Estelle McCrary, and Nettie Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 39 years, Mattie (Ford) Simon; ten children, Calvin (Liz) Simon of Columbiana, AL, Ricky (Linda) Simon of Pinson, AL, Mickey Simon of Portland, OR, Ronnie (Janet) Simon of Jacksonville, FL, Kenneth (Phyllis) Simon of Enterprise, AL, Stephanie Simon of Portland, OR, Christopher Simon of Jemison, AL, Edward (Tara) Seay of Suwanee, GA, Bobby Wallace of Birmingham, AL, and Brenda Wallace of Randolph, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great-grandchildren.
