RONALD LEONARD WORTHEY was born on November 14, 1953, in Selma, Alabama. He was one of three children born to Deacon Jimmy Lee and Sister Lee Anna Worthey.
At an early age, Ronald, affectionately known as Leonard, was baptized in the creek of Mr. Hazel Campbell by Pastor E.J. Minnifield and became a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He continued his membership at Pleasant Hill, where he served on the Board of Trustees and sung in the male chorus. In his passing, he was under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Nix. During the earlier years, he also sang in the Worthey Brothers singing group.
Leonard was taught the value of hard work by his loving parents and abundant family. He started working for ABEX/ABC Rail in Calera, Alabama, at the age of 17, and he worked there for many years, until it closed. He then went on to work for Cheney Lime Cement Company in Alabaster, Alabama, which he retired from in 2016.
Leonard was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and uncle who truly loved and supported his family. His memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
He will be remembered for his humble spirit and willingness to help others. He was loved by many and will be truly missed.
Leonard’s life journey came to an end on July 29, 2022. His devoted wife of fifty years, Deborah, and his brother, Reverend Jimmy Lewis Worthey, preceded him in death.
He was survived by: four children, who will forever cherish his memories, Latashia Worthey, Shalonda Worthey-Williams, Angela Worthey, and Marie Worthey, all of Maplesville, AL; parents, Deacon Jimmy Lee and Sister Lee Anna Worthey of Maplesville, AL; eleven grandchildren, Chris, Ronald, Chasity, Ashley, Nicolas, Deonta, Sadie, Demarion, Delundre, Victoria, and Arianna; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Deacon Redius Worthey (Evelyn) of Maplesville, AL, Kenny Nix.(Bobbie), and Brian Nix (Christina); sister, Kim Nix-Morton (Rev.
