Rodney Smith Obituary

Rodney Dewight Smith was the beloved son of Mary Archie and Marion and Clarissa Smith. He shared a deep and unconditional love with his siblings and had a special, one-of-a-kind bond with each of them: Meciala, Darrius (Jimmecqua), Jamie, and Alex (Santana).

His memory will forever live on through his cherished nieces and nephews: Dailyn, Dakota, Malani, Eliana, Mela, Kash, andLaila (arriving in September).

Rodney will forever remain in the hearts of his grandmother, Ida McDaniel; his bonus grandparents, Willie and Joyce McCray; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Learde Sailes, Daniel and Alberta Archie, and Ellis McDaniel.

During his teenage years, Rodney participated in weekly Bible classes at the West End Church of Christ alongside other youth. Through these classes, he was taught the Gospel and many valuable life lessons. The relationships he formed and the spiritual foundation he gained had such a profound impact on his life that he made the decision to be baptized and added to the body of Christ.

Rodney was a loving, intelligent, and creative young man who touched the lives of everyone who knew him. As a child and throughout his teenage years, he valued his privacy and often preferred a quiet and reserved lifestyle. He was known for his polite manners, thoughtful spirit, and gentle nature. Rodney had a passion for drawing and reading, particularly science fiction, and possessed a vivid imagination that fueled his creativity.

An exceptional student, Rodney consistently earned Honor Roll recognition and was actively involved in numerous school organizations, including the Blue Regiment Band, Beta Club, Art Club (outstanding achievement), Key Club, Lecroy Career Technical Center, completion of Health Science, and certificate for outstanding performance in Anatomy. He proudly graduated from Jemison High School as a member of the Class of 2010 and participated in the Jefferson State Community College Dual Enrollment Program while still in high school. Following graduation,

Rodney continued his educational journey by attending Alabama A&M; University, where he further expanded his knowledge and experiences.

Rodney embraced life on his own terms and was wonderfully unique. His interests, perspectives, intelligence, and distinctive personality left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though his time with us was far too short, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain with us forever.

May the memories of Rodney bring comfort during moments of sorrow, smiles during moments of reflection, and a love that continues to grow in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
