PASTOR JOEL LEE ATCHISON was born on
October 27, 1950, in Chilton County, AL, to the late Reverend Joseph Atchison and Gussie Lee Allison.
He was baptized at an early age at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained faithful until
death.
He was educated in the Chilton County School System,
then transferred to Chilton County Training School.
He was joined in holy matrimony with Jeanette Sims on November 7, 1971. He was a loving father-figure, uncle, and brother. He was called into the ministry. He pastored Mount Tabor in Brent, Alabama, Mount Sinai in Alridge, Alabama, and then Unity Baptist Church in Billingsley, Alabama, until his death. He was loved by many. He was a minister through music, a member of the Wondering Clouds, Spiritual Aires, and other various groups. He was fun-loving, loved to make people laugh, and really enjoyed playing pranks on his nieces and nephews.
He transitioned from his earthly life on Monday, August 2, 2021.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Reverend Joseph Atchison, his mother, Gussie Atchison, and brother, Henry Atchison.
He leaves to cherish and love his memories: his wife of 49 years, Jeanette Sims; three brothers, Joe Lawrence Atchison of Anniston, Alabama, Jerry Atchison of Thorsby, Alabama, and James Atchison of Randolph, Alabama; five sisters, Arnita Motley (Nathaniel) of Mayliene, Alabama, Judy Devould (Antonio) of Calera, Alabama, Charolette Paterson (Julius Lee) of Mobile, Alabama, Cynthia Bell (Johnnie) of Selma, Alabama, and Barbara Atchison of Randolph, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
