Regina Melton Beckett was born on July 12, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan, the fourth child of Melvin Sr. and Willie Bea Thomas Melton. From the moment she came home from the hospital, Regina showed her lively spirit, nearly scooting off the bed at just five days old, only to be caught by her father. This early adventure set the tone for a life full of energy and joy.
Regina graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit. In 1979, she married Charles Beckett, and together they had two children. In 2002, she moved to Jemison, Alabama, to be closer to her parents and children. In 2010, she married Donald Hardnett. Regina remained dedicated to her family and lived her life with purpose and joy.
Regina dedicated her life to Christ at an early age at Garden of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. In her final days, she was a cherished member of St. James Community Bible Church, where she inspired the congregation by sharing weekly church announcements.
Known for her inspirational spirit, Regina sent daily quotes to family and friends, brightening their days. She affectionately called herself "Sunshine," a fitting nickname for someone who brought so much light into the lives of others. Regina filled her days with activities she loved, including organizing, cleaning, decorating, singing, dancing, shooting pool, and gardening.
A passionate music lover, Regina had an extensive record collection and enjoyed singing along to her favorite songs. Gardening was another of her passions; she spent summer months planting and caring for flowers, talking to her plants, and keeping many in her home. Regina also kept her mind sharp with daily crossword puzzles and often framed complete picture puzzles. She loved shopping, especially at yard sales and thrift stores, where she had a knack for finding treasures. She also enjoyed participating in card games with her family and friends.
Regina loved taking pictures and posing for pictures. She truly cherished life’s memories.
Regina enjoyed visiting family often. She loved visiting Detroit for the annual events and making memories with her childhood friends. She built long lasting relationships with them, and she cherished each person she came across.
Regina was a devoted caregiver, providing daily care with love and compassion, which brought joy to the family she cared for. She loved hard and out loud. Regina had a passion for good food and often said she is " feeding her face" when you would ask what she was doing.
Regina’s passing will leave a void in the lives of all that knew her. She loved and knew so many people that it is impossible to name them all. She never met a stranger and had friends from all walks of life that she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Willie Bea Melton, Sr., and brother, Melvin Melton, Jr.
Regina leaves behind cherished memories with her two beloved children, Charles and Shavon; one stepson, Ricky Henderson; two sisters, Angernette (Carl) Johnson and Karen (James) Taylor; one brother, Willie Lee (Toyliese) Melton; five grandchildren, Zyon Hardnett, Chavez Melton, Chaz Melton, Charles Micha Melton, and Verlaya Melton; two bonus grandsons, Davion and Darion Slaughter; a host of nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, a great-grandnephew, and a great-grandniece; two uncles; three aunts; cousins; and many friends.
