On February 25, 1957, in Verbena, Alabama, a vibrant baby boy came into the world. Norman Tyus, Jr., was born to the loving embrace of his parents, the late Norman Tyus, Sr., and the late Amanda Terry. At a young age, Norman found comfort in his faith and became a member of Lilly Hill Baptist Church. Known affectionately as “Bruh,” Norman touched the hearts of everyone he met with his easygoing nature and contagious laughter.
In 1985, Norman’s life changed forever when he crossed paths with Leatha Caffee. Their connection was instant and intense, marking the start of a lifelong journey filled with love and happiness. For thirty-eight (38) years, Norman and Leatha created a beautiful life together, raising their children and making unforgettable memories along the way.
Before the sun rose on August 16, 2024, Norman, aged sixty- seven (67), peacefully slipped away, surrounded by his devoted wife and sons. His cherished sister, Lilly Mae Franklin, and his brother, Jerry Tyus preceded him in death, along with his parents. Norman’s gentle nature and enduring legacy of love, kindness, and laughter left an extraordinary mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him, making him a cherished friend and relative to many. He is survived by his devoted wife, Leatha, and his four children: daughter, Tiffany Tyus of Verbena, AL; sons, Madison (Deidre) Tyus of Verbena, AL, Kendall (Mary) Caffee of Jacksonville, AR, and Niegel Caffee of Marbury, AL; eleven (11) beautiful grandchildren, Destiny, Juwan, Xavier, Mykayia, Melia, Alissa, Jaiden, Madison, Ameer, Kenlei, and Olivia Grace; five (5) great- grandchildren; eight (8) sisters survive him, Ann, Lillie W. (Alex), Julia (Tony), Rosie (Verb), Sonja, Glenda, Marzetta, and Josephine; three (3) brothers, Kevin (Kim), Cleo, and Albert; four (4) sisters-in-law, Ruby, Ann (Garland), Sherold (Richard), and Tanjanenia; one (1) brother-in-law, Ray (Connie); and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
