Nadine Tyus …born March 1,1964, was the fourth child born to the union of the late Mr. and Mrs. Morris and Lois Tyus of Verbena, Alabama, in the community of Lily Hill.
Nadine attended Verbena Elementary School and graduated with Honors from Verbena High School. She continued her formal education at Alabama State University, earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and graduating Cum Laude.
She returned to Verbena High School and taught English and History for a short time, before accepting a career position at Alabama State University as a Student Financial Aid Counselor. Excelling in this position, she became the Financial Aid Guru, promoting ASU and assisting numerous students in acquiring financial aid to attend ASU and other universities as well. She was instrumental in acquiring the Financial Aid Tour Bus, which went out to underserved areas in Alabama to educate students and their parents on higher learning and providing transportation to the ASU career days.
After devoting 26 years to her students, and their parents, she retired in 2014. However, her professional work did not end, as many students/parents called upon her for assistance.
Nadine’s mission became to help educate our youth, to reach their fullest potential while creating responsible and productive citizens.
Nadine was also member of the Order of Eastern Stars, a Girl Scout Leader, ASU Band Booster Supporter, and numerous community outreach programs.
On March 9, 2023, Nadine was called home to be with the Lord.
Preceding her into Heaven, are her loving parents and one sister, Gwendolyn Tyree.
Leaving to cherish in memory, the Loves of her life, one daughter;ShaVonda Thomas; Son-in-law: Macken Thomas, two granddaughters: EveMarie Thomas and Majesty Thomas, all of Atlanta, GA. Siblings: Demeatrice Saunders of Philadelphia, PA, Sherrilyn (Dwayne) Sanders, Maurice (Rose) Tyus, Rodney (Vondell) Tyus, Tracy (Sharon) Tyus, all of Alabama. Sister/cousin, Stephanie (Henry) Shaw of Inkster, MI, and Eugenia (Tony) Avery, of Alabama. Aunts: Barbara Merkerson, Beverly (Walter) Postell, of Alabama, and Lois Gibbons of Providence, RI. Uncle: Roger (Sandra) Gibbons, Huntsville, Alabama, eight nieces, nine nephews and a host of loving family, and friends.
