Melvin Melton Jr. was born on June 7, 1954 to Melvin Melton, Sr. and Willie Bea Melton. He was the eldest of five siblings and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Melvin attended Mumford High School in Detroit Michigan and later obtained his GED. He was a great musician, who could play any instrument by ear. Melvin also had a beautiful singing voice and had a love for all types of music. He later moved to Jemison, AL where he lived until the Lord called him home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Willie B. Melton, his daughter Chiquita Denise Melton, brother Willie Lee (Toyleise) Melton, sisters Angernette Melton (Carl Johnson), Regina Melton Beckett, and Karen Melton Taylor (James Taylor). Three grandchildren A’reaonnia Melton, Du’Vaughn Williams, and Dante Williams and two great grandchildren Jay Cook and Messiah Cook, with one on the way, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Melvin also leaves to cherish in memory 3 honorary brothers, Kenneth Stevens, Frank Woodson, and Dan Lee. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Melton, Sr, his first wife, Janice Melton and an honorary brother, Alphonso Straughter.
Melvin enjoyed life and people. To his friends, he was always known as the Mel-Man because no matter what time or day you could depend on him. He always delivered. He was loved by everyone he came in contact with. Melvin was called home on August 3, 2021, he will truly be missed.
