Mary Fields Obituary

Born on December 1, 1949, in Lilly Hill Alabama, MARY ALICE FIELDS was the eldest child of the late Willie James and Queen Anne Walton. She attended Autaugaville High School in Autaugaville, AL. After graduating high school, Mary decided to venture outside of Alabama to New York in search of a better life. Mary settled in Long Beach, NY where she resided for several years. While living in Long Beach, Mary met and dated Cornelius “Phil” Fields for a few years before eventually marrying him.

Mary and Phil worked hard to provide a good life for their children Rodney and Michelle. As a result of their hard work, they purchased their first home in Roosevelt, Long Island. Mary prided herself in this accomplishment by keeping her home decorated with beautiful flowers and a flourishing garden, but she did not stop there. At the age of 50, Mary earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Communications from Adelphi University while working full-time at Allstate Insurance Company. Mary continued to work for Allstate for many years. After retiring from Allstate, she and her husband relocated to South Hill, Virginia. While living in South Hill Mary, feeling the need to stay busy, began substitute teaching in the South Hill School District which she enjoyed. Mary lived in South Hill until the passing of her husband and returned home to Alabama shortly after. She enjoyed returning home where it all began and especially enjoyed being close to her family and friends.

Mary entered into eternal peace on Thursday December 30, 2021 at Prattville Baptist Hospital in Prattville, AL. Mary was a beautiful, giving woman who helped many people throughout her life and will truly be missed.

To cherish her memories, Mary leaves her Son: Rodney (Tera), Westbury, N.Y.; Daughter: Michelle, Montgomery, AL.; two grandchildren: Shamel and Rodney Jr.; Sisters and Brothers: Ruth Graham of Marbury, AL., Johnny (Dorothy) Walton of Montgomery, AL., James (April) Walton of Montgomery, AL., Clara Lucas of Prattville, AL., Barbara Walton of Prattville, AL., Arthur (Janita) Walton of Prattville, AL., Bronco Walton of Prattville, AL., Marvin (Tonika) Walton of Prattville, AL., Waymond (Odessa) Walton of Prattville, AL., Sylvester (Delores) Walton of Prattville, AL., Charlie Walton of Prattville, AL., Roger (Lawanda) Walton of Prattville, AL., Cathy (Don) Smith of Prattville, AL.; One living Aunt: Inez Ray of Birmingham, AL., and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
