Ludean Hicks Obituary

In loving memory of our dear mother, Ludean Hicks, whose melody came to an end on December 30, 2024.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ludean Hicks, a dedicated healthcare professional who touched countless lives with her compassion and unwavering care. She had a gentle nature and genuine warmth that brought comfort to those in need and was a beacon of hope and comfort to all who crossed her path. Her spirit of service to her community will continue to inspire us all.

Ludean Kennebrew Hicks was born on August 18, 1944. She was the daughter of John and Mary Lee Kennebrew, born third of six children. Ludean is survived by her beloved sister, Lorna Bell Kennebrew. Ludean was born and raised in Thorsby, Alabama. She received her education from Chilton County Training School, Tuskegee University, and Fisk University. Ludean was the first black registered nurse at the Chilton County Health Department, where she served her community for over 40 years.

Ludean’s lifelong ministry included serving as Minister of Music at Beulah Baptist Church, Holly Grove Baptist Church, and Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served the longest. Ludean’s passion for music was boundless, leading her to teach and mentor numerous students who later became accomplished Ministers of Music as well.

Ludean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmore Hicks, and her children, Mario and Jamille. She is survived by her children, Jana Hicks and Mark Hicks (married to Talitha); extended family Kavesha and Thomas Terry; nieces Barbra Ann Kennebrew and Sherri Kennebrew Mims; and her cherished grandchildren: Jada, Caleb, Micah, Cameron, Enora, Cash, and Chance.
