Lee Edward Sowell was born on August 5, 1949 in Clanton, Alabama to Mae Liza Jones and C.W. Sowell. At an early age Lee accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Lee moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1969, where he worked in the automotive industry for Chrysler. Later in life he began to drive trucks, from which he retired 30 years later. Lee was the life of the party. He lit up every room he walked in because the fun was about to begin.
Those who preceded him in death were his grandmother, Mary Taylor-Jones; mother, Mae Liza Jones; sister, Elizebeth Childs; grandson, Troy Sowell; and great-grandson, Michael Dawson, Jr.
Lee is survived by: his two daughters, Wendy White and Sherla Sowell; one son, Mario Joyner; nine grandchildren, Dynesiha Atkins (Ron), Michael Dawson, Randall Sowell, Devontae Sowell, Actavia Hill, Emmoni White, Malik Joyner, Maurice Joyner, and Maciah Joyner; 13 great -grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Doris Stoudemire (Andrew), Betty Hall (Kemble), William Jenkins, Robert Jenkins, Willie Joe Jenkins (Roberta), Janice Jenkins, Willie Camble, and James Sowell; one living aunt, Ethel Stone; and a host of nieces and nephews.
