Josh Wright Jr

Josh Wright, Jr, was born August 22, 1948 to Joshua and Estorie Wright.

He earned his angel wings and departed his earthly home on February 1, 2022. God said come home my good and faithful servant, your life assignment on earth is complete.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, oldest son Eric, and sisters, Lillie Parker and Truzella King.

There were no limits to Josh’s faith in the word of God. He confessed to Christ at an early age and joined Carter Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Billingsley, Alabama. There, he faithfully served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Church Treasurer, and Sunday School Teacher.   

Josh was very crafty and enjoyed creating and developing various home projects. Josh’s early years of education began at Chilton County Training School in Clanton, Alabama. After graduation, he attended Trenholm State College in Montgomery, Alabama. He majored in carpentry - an early sign of his love to build.  

Josh was a passionate farmer who led the charge to designate the Wright farm a Century Farm in 2014. He was a third generation farmer and served multiple terms on the Chilton County Farm Service Advisory Board. He raised Beefmaster cows on land that his grandaddy purchased in 1913, as well as land later purchased by his father. In addition he collaborated with his brothers James and David to buy additional land, which further expanded the farm to what you see today.  

His infectious smile, special crafts, desire to bake and try new recipes earned him the famous name of “Mr. Martha”. His love to cook and show off his new dishes shined in his famous peach cobbler, freshly squeezed lemonade, tea cakes, and banana nut bread and will be surely missed, but not forgotten. 

Josh worked for Williams Transcontinental Pipeline Company in Billingsley, Alabama for 40 years before retiring. 

Although his life assignment on earth is complete, his legacy will continue to impact his family and community for many years to come.

Cherishing the memories made and his lifelong legacy are his devoted wife Julia of 51 years, son, Steven (Tanisha) Wright, Antelope, California; three Grandchildren: Anthony Wright and Erica and Eric Edwards; two brothers: David (Ora) Wright, Detroit Michigan, Dr. James (Catherine) Wright, Montgomery, Alabama; three sisters: Annie Holloway, Garner, North Carolina, Mary (Joseph) Caver Montgomery, Alabama, Laura (Ray) Adams, Montgomery, Alabama; and sister and brothers in-law, Lizzy Thomas, Lewis Thomas and Marvin King, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Billingsley community.
