George Johnson peacefully departed this life on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the age of 85. He was born in Selma, Alabama, to the late Mable Collins and Sampson Johnson.
George attended the Selma City School System. At a young age, he began working in the transportation industry—a path that would become a lifelong career. His dedication and passion for the open road led him to become an accomplished owner-operator. Among his many achievements, George was honored as a member of the prestigious Million Mile Club, a recognition awarded to drivers who have safely traveled over one million miles without a preventable accident. He was known for driving coast to coast with ease and expertise.
Respected in the workforce, George was admired for his unwavering work ethic, reliability, and professionalism.
It was in Selma where George met the love of his life, Billie S. Johnson. Their union of 62 beautiful years brought forth a family that became the center of his world. He was a devoted father to three beloved children: Stephon, Cheryl, and Tracy Johnson, and he lovingly embraced a bonus daughter, Jacqueline Trimble. George’s love for his children knew no bounds. He was a constant source of strength, always ensuring they had more than they needed, and his unwavering support never faltered.
Family meant everything to George. He found his greatest joy in caring for his wife and children, and he will forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the deep love he showed those around him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Billie S. Johnson; bonus daughter Jacqueline Trimble (Joseph), son Stephon Johnson; daughters Cheryl Johnson (Zettie) and Tracy LaShawn Johnson (Lamar), and his 3 grandchildren Jasmine Trimble Pugh, Joshua Trimble, and Mia Johnson, and a great granddaughter, Josie Jordan Pugh, along with a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends who were blessed to know him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mable Collins; his brothers, Sam Johnson and JC Johnson; and his grandson, Joseph David Trimble II.
George Johnson’s legacy of love, hard work, and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
