EDDIE REED, devoted servant of God and former mayor of Jemison, transitioned from labor to reward on March 16, 2026.
Eddie was more than a public servant—he was a pillar of the community, a neighbor, and a friend to many. His presence and wisdom have left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Eddie dedicated much of his life to public service and to the betterment of his community. During his time as mayor, he was known for his leadership, his care for the citizens of Jemison, and his commitment to strengthening the town he loved.
Eddie was born on May 30, 1945, to the late Curtis and Ola Mae Reed. To this union, eleven children were born, two of whom preceded him in death—one in infancy and his brother, Clyde.
He was joined in holy matrimony to Clarissa Smitherman who preceded him in death. Though they had no children, Eddie was a source of strength, wisdom, and love to his extended family and all who knew him.
Cherishing his memories are his siblings, Joe (Willie Mae), Mary, Barbara (Robert Singletary), Samuel (Julia), Sandra, Vera (Arthur Jones), Randy, and Phyllis (Larry Richardson). He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will continue to honor his legacy of love and faith.
While our hearts mourn, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life. The Word reminds us in II Corinthians 5:8 that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We take comfort in knowing that Eddie now rests in the presence of his Savior, having heard the words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23).
His legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7
