Debra Barbour-Wilson was born on July 5th, 1956 in Clanton, Alabama. After graduating from Isabella High School in Maplesville, she went on to Samford University in Birmingham where she earned a degree in nursing.
From there she went on to work at hospitals in Alabama, Indiana, and finally California. Touching lives and making friends all along the way. If you knew Debra, you know she was not just a nurse by profession, but by way of life.
She cared for others so deeply. It didn’t matter if you were a patient, a coworker, a friend or family member; she’d treat you just the same. Her compassion truly knew no bounds. If someone was going through a storm in their life, she was there to check on them and get them through it. And if they were in a season of winning, she was right there to cheer them on and get everyone dancing.
Debra was filled with an unwavering faith in Christ. No matter where she went, she found a church to worship in.
She was always speaking life into others with his word, as well as making sure to read her daily scriptures.
We believe this faith in God was one of the reasons she was such a joyous person. She lit up every room she walked into with her smile and laugh. She was thankful for every day, and really lived her life like it was golden.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories three children: Lakenya, Callea and Gherrel Wilson, her husband: Gregory Wilson, her sister: Ovetta Owens, her nephews: Terrell Barbour and Patrick Owens, great nephews: Elijah and NaVonte Barbour and a host of other cousins, friends, family and loved ones.
Her beloved mother and brother, Nora and Chester Barbour, preceded her in death.
