Darlene (Cassa) Singleterry, 65, of Jemison, Alabama passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, Alabaster, Alabama.
Born June 27, 1956 and raised in San Carlos, Arizona by parents Jeanette and Burnette Cassa. Upon graduating from High School
Darlene left home to attend college in New Ulm, Minnesota at Dr Martin Luther College. Returning home to San Carlos she began working as a Seasonal wildland firefighter with the San Carlos Apache Tribal firefighters. In the off season she worked as a tutoring aide at the Rice Elementary school and began attending a local community college for a nursing degree. Darlene then joined the United States Army and left for Basic Training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, then to Advanced Indiviual Training to become a Licensed Practical Nurse at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. She met and married her husband Gary Singleterry at Fort McClellan, Alabama. Together they went to Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and to Nuremberg, Germany. Upon their return from Germany they settled in Jemison, Alabama continuing to provide a service and caring for patients at Shelby Medical, Chilton Medical and Hatley Health Care.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Gary O. Singleterry, parents, Jeanette and Burnette Cassa, brothers Samuel and Burnette Dale Cassa. She is survived by her sons Reginald Singleterry of Jemison, Alabama, Michael Singleterry of Jemison, Alabama, loving Grandchildren Tyler Singleterry and Natalee Singleterry of Jemison, Alabama, sisters,Velma (Arnall) Swift of San Carlos, Arizona, Carmen (Terry) Stuart of Newport,Tennessee, Lorna Jean Jones of San Carlos, Arizona, Janet Gail Cassa of San Carlos, Arizona and Francelia Cassa of Phoenix, Arizona. Family here in Jemison also includes many of her in-laws.
Darlene loved and was loved very much by all her many nieces, nephews and their children and will be missed by all. She set an example for them to follow by being humble, honest, caring and hardworking.
