CATHERINE ELAINE WILSON JACKSON was born in Clanton, Alabama, to the late Ida Darby Wilson and Matthew Wilson, Sr.
She attended the public schools of Chilton County and integrated Chilton County High School in 1966. She was the first black graduate of Chilton County High School in 1967.
At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Montgomery, Alabama. She later attended Frazier United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late James Young Jackson on December 17, 1983, in Montgomery, Alabama. The couple’s union was graced with two children.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Her college education began at Tuskegee University before she went on to graduate from Essex Community College in Baltimore, Maryland, with a degree in nursing. She was an instructor at Trenholm Technical College and later worked for the Alabama Department of Public Health. She retired from the state of Alabama as Director of HIV/AIDS Direct Care and Service Branch.
Catherine adored her family. She loved to travel and was an avid book reader. She also loved to listen to her blues and R&B.
Her amazing life will always be cherished in the lives of her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her two children, Kirbena (Mark) Jackson Robinson of Montgomery, Alabama, and Jermichael Hooks of Montgomery, Alabama; six grandchildren, Nina Cathileen Jackson, Matthew Benjamin-James Burton, Jarmarious Woods, Tyrick Carter, Jermichael Hooks, Jr., and Jaylinn Jackson; one great-grandchild, Genesis Apollo Jennings, all of Montgomery, Alabama; one sister, Susie Wilson Smith of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother, Solomon Wilson of Las Vegas, Nevada. Her memory will also be cherished by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of loving friends.
