Deacon Callie Gill, Jr., was born on
August 24, 1945, to the late Callie Gill, Sr., and Lezeta Tyus Gill
in Montgomery, Alabama.
He married the love of his life, Shirley
Dean Ware Gill, on December 5, 1964. To this union, they bore six
children.
He and his family attended Holy Assembly of Jesus in Wetumpka,
Alabama, under the leadership of Bishop James Ware, Sr., then
Elder James Ware, Jr., and currently Elder Sylvia Ware. He was a
faithful deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He was also a
member of the Board of Trustees.
Even though he worked several jobs, his love was working on cars.
He was the owner of his own shop for years.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Callie Gill,
Sr., and Lezeta Tyus Gill, and three brothers-in-law, Bishop James
Ware, Sr., Ernie Ware, and Joseph Ware.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his loving and devoted
wife of 58 years, Shirley; two sons, Solomon Gill of Verbena, AL
and Timothy Gill of St. Petersburg, FL; four daughters, Wanda Gill
McDonald and Glenda Gill Sanders, both of Athens, AL, Sheila
(Kevin) Dozier of Prattville, AL, and Brenda (Stanley Brown) Gill
of Verbena, AL; two honorary daughters, Marilyn (John) Gaston
of Cleveland, OH, and Gwendolyn (the late LeDon) DeReese of
Verbena, AL; four sisters-in-law, Vera (the late Bishop James)
Ware Sr., Ethel (Charles) Gill and Jacquelyn (Gerard) Mirbel,
both of Painesville, OH, and Mary Esperance of Jacksonville,
FL; two brothers-in-law, Virgil Ware of Euclid, OH, and Charles
Anthony North of Huntington, NY; favorite first cousin, Johnnie
Mae Brown of Old Kingston, AL; special friends, Bishop Warren
(Hattie) Tyus, Sr., of Clanton, AL, and Orrin Hudson of Atlanta,
GA; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
