Billie Singleterry Johnson passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the age of 85. Born in Clanton, Alabama, to the late Johnnie Mae and Melvin Singleterry. Billie grew up surrounded by family, faith, and love. Those early roots shaped the kindness, strength, and generosity that carried throughout her life.
She graduated from Chilton County Training School, now Chilton County High School, and later earned an associate’s degree from Daniel Payne College in Birmingham, Alabama. Throughout her life, Billie worked in several fields, including education, insurance, and bookkeeping, always bringing kindness, grace, and a strong work ethic to everything she did.
While visiting Selma, Alabama, Billie met the love of her life, George Robert Johnson. Their bond was deep and enduring, and together they shared 62 beautiful years of marriage.
Billie was the proud mother of four children: Jacqueline, Stephen, Cheryl, and Tracy. Billie loved her family fiercely, and her home was always a place of warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.
Family meant everything to Billie. She will forever be remembered for her diva ways, her kind and giving heart, and the constant love she showed to her family. Her strong will and sharp mind were hallmarks of her character.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Jacqueline Trimble (Joseph); her son, Stephen Johnson; her daughter, Cheryl Johnson‑Davis (Zettie); and her daughter, Tracy Johnson (Lamar). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jasmine Trimble Pugh (Elijah), Joshua Trimble, and Mia Johnson; her great‑granddaughter, Josie Jordan Pugh; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who were touched by her presence.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, eleven of her siblings, a grandchild, and her beloved husband, George Robert Johnson, whom she now joins in eternal rest.
Billie’s love, strength, and generous spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will forever be a blessing.
