Barbara Kennebrew Obituary

Barbara Ann Kennebrew was born on October 23, 1958. She was the daughter of Napolean Kennebrew and Dororthy Jean Atchison, and the firstborn of four children by Dorothy Jean Atchison. She passed away on May 19, 2025, in her Montgomery, Alabama, home following a prolonged illness, and surrounded by her loved ones.

Barbara was born in Miami, Florida, and raised in both Miami, Florida, and Thorsby, Alabama. Barbara received her education from Miami Carol City High School in Miami, Florida, and graduated from Thorsby High School in Thorsby, Alabama. Barbara honorably served in the United States Army from 1977 to 1982, retired from Fulton County Sheriffs Department of Fulton County, Georgia, after twenty-one years of service, and later worked six years at the Georgia Department of Corrections. She had a joyous spirit, a giving heart, and a contagious sense of humor. Barbara always had a positive outlook on life, and was always full of kindness, laughter, love, and encouragement. She cherished her strong family relationships and the valuable friendships she made throughout her lifetime.

Barbara received Christ at an early age and became a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church during her youth and sang in the choir until relocating to Florida.

Barbara was survived by: her loving daughter, Latisa Kennebrew of Montgomery, AL; brother, Kenneth Ellis of Louin, MS; brother, Bernard Ellis of Atlanta, GA; and sister, Janetta Tyus of Clanton, AL.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Napolean Kennebrew and Dorothy Jean Atchison Campbell; aunt, Ruby Mae Atchison (Bonnie); and uncle, Ernest Atchison.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memories: uncles, J.B. Atchison and Perry Taylor; aunts, Shirley Atchison and Lorna Bell Kennebrew; cousins, Judy Campbell Callahan, Tony Atchison, Hosea Atchison, Jr., Annie Pearl Atchison, Dolphus Atchison, Jr., Mark Hicks, Jana Hicks, and Sherri Kennebrew Mims; nephews, Noah Ellis, Kevin Tyus, and Patrick “PJ” Montgomery; nieces, Kaira Ellis, Charity Ellis, and Justine Tyus; and a host of other loved cousins and friends.

Barbara Ann Kennebrew will be greatly missed and always in our loving memory as a strong woman who loved the LORD, had a giving and compassionate spirit, contagious sense of humor, and always brightened a room with her loving smile.

We will forever love you, Barbara Ann Kennebrew.
