ANNIE RUTH CAMPBELL THOMAS peacefully passed away on May 14, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Jemison, Alabama, to the late Vernon and Margaret Campbell, her journey on this Earth was marked by love, faith, and unwavering commitment to her church, family, friends, and community.
She confessed Christ at an early age and was a faithful and active member of St. James Highland Bible Church. She received her education through Chilton County Training School and later earned an associate’s degree from Bronx Community College in the Bronx, New York.
Annie Ruth dedicated her career to making a tangible difference in her community. She was a public servant and served on the Chilton County Board of Education along with other community organizations. She worked diligently in the mental health and social service fields and later retired from Community Action Agency in Clanton, Alabama. Her professional life was a direct reflection of her personal values, and she was always looking for ways to uplift those around her. Beyond her employment, she was a passionate volunteer and constantly found ways to support those in need within her local community.
Outside her community work, Annie Ruth was a woman of immense creativity and warmth. She found great joy in arts and crafts and sharing them with others. Her kitchen was a place of comfort where her love of cooking and baking brought family and friends together.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Tshiluba Dancy (Larry); bonus son, Marion Smith (Clarissa); cherished grandchildren, Tacuma Williams and Lauryn Dancy; great- grandchildren, Jaylen Williams, Taylor Williams, and Landon Williams; dear sister, Mary Ann Green; beloved nieces, Sharron Rowser; and Erin Pleasant (DJ); beloved nephews, Jay and Ayden Pleasant; and many other relatives and friends who were touched by her presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Margaret Campbell; and cherished son, Gerald Williams.
